Dr. Nigriny, MD DMD, is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon practicing at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center who specializes in head and neck reconstruction. He received training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Hahnemann University in 1998 and completed an additional residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Stanford University in 2006. Thereafter he completed a fellowship in microsurgery at MD Anderson Cancer Center.

  • Discuss common etiology for head and neck cancers, including staging and classification for HPV and non-HPV oropharyngeal cancers
  • Discuss important considerations for reconstruction of defects based on region (oropharynx/oesophagus, tongue, mandible, midface, skull base, cheek, scalp)
  • Describe common free and local tissue transfer options for reconstruction of head and neck defects, including the role of jejunal flaps
  • Understand common complications associated with head and neck reconstruction, as well as appropriate postoperative management of such
