SURGhub Launches Global Learning Needs Assessment

As part of its ongoing mission to strengthen the global surgical workforce, SURGhub has launched a new Learning Needs Assessment to better understand the priorities of surgical teams around the world.

With over two years of impact and tens of thousands of learners, SURGhub has launched a global surgical Learning Needs Assessment to inform the future development of the platform.

Listening to Learners: The SURGhub Learning Needs Assessment

With over two years of impact, SURGhub is now launching a Learning Needs Assessment to better understand the evolving priorities and challenges of surgical care providers worldwide.

This short, ten-minute survey aims to gather valuable insights into the learning needs, preferences, and suggestions of those delivering care on the frontlines.

The findings will directly shape the future development of SURGhub, ensuring the platform meets real-world needs and continues to strengthen surgical systems globally.

The survey is open until 28 February 2026.

Empowering the Surgical Workforce Worldwide

Launched in June 2023, the United Nations Global Surgery Learning Hub (SURGhub) is a platform dedicated to equipping the global surgical workforce with lifesaving skills. SURGhub has rapidly become a central resource for surgical teams, offering high-quality training and knowledge sharing across more than 200 countries and territories.

Today, tens of thousands of learners use SURGhub to access over 100 courses developed by leading global surgery organizations and academic partners. The platform focuses particularly on supporting healthcare professionals in low- and middle-income countries, helping bridge the gap in access to safe, affordable surgical care for the five billion people who still lack it.

Shaping the Future of Surgical Learning

SURGhub’s mission extends beyond online education — it’s about building communities of practice that connect surgeons, anesthetists, nurses, and allied health professionals. Through continuous learning, shared knowledge, and data-driven innovation, SURGhub aims to strengthen surgical systems and improve patient outcomes worldwide.

By contributing to the Learning Needs Assessment, participants have the opportunity to influence the next generation of training, ensuring that it reflects the realities of surgical care in every setting.

A Call for Collaboration

SURGhub invites not only individual surgical care providers but also organizations, training institutions, and professional societies to help disseminate the Learning Needs Assessment. By amplifying participation, partners can play a vital role in ensuring the results reflect the full spectrum of surgical care realities across regions and disciplines.

Together, these insights will guide SURGhub in developing future learning pathways and innovations that make surgical education more accessible, equitable, and impactful.
