This course provides a comprehensive overview of Effective Communication and how it relates to the Fundamentals of Patient Safety.

Fundamentals of Patient Safety 2024 provides a comprehensive overview of the Fundamentals of Patient Safety presented on seven key topic areas. Each topic is divided into mini-sections with a mobile-friendly interface. It provides healthcare professionals with the history, scope, and impact of adverse events and explains the key areas that affect overall patient safety. The course also addresses the systems approach to error analysis and mitigation. Learners can apply this knowledge in their clinical practice to reduce patient harm.

Jonathan B. Cohen, MD, MS, FCCP, CPPS

Dr. Cohen is an anaesthesiologist at Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida, board certified in anaesthesiology and critical care medicine, with a Master of Science in Patient Safety Leadership from the University of Illinois. He has served as patient safety officer of the anaesthesiology department since 2012 and currently chairs the perioperative safety committee. His safety initiatives focus on crisis response in the operating room, anaesthesia team communication, and opioid overdose management. A two-time recipient of Moffitt's Excellence in Safety Award, Dr. Cohen has presented on patient safety and naloxone administration at national meetings including IARS and NPSF. He serves on the ASA Anaesthesia Patient Safety Editorial Board and the ASA Committee on Patient Safety and Education.
