This course provides a comprehensive overview of Epidemiology and how it relates to the Fundamentals of Patient Safety.

Fundamentals of Patient Safety 2024 provides a comprehensive overview of the Fundamentals of Patient Safety presented on seven key topic areas. Each topic is divided into mini-sections with a mobile-friendly interface. It provides healthcare professionals with the history, scope, and impact of adverse events and explains the key areas that affect overall patient safety. The course also addresses the systems approach to error analysis and mitigation. Learners can apply this knowledge in their clinical practice to reduce patient harm.

Dr. Sadhasivam is a Tenured Professor in anesthesiology and Executive Vice-Chair of Clinical Quality, Patient Safety and Clinical Research, Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is also the Director of Perioperative Research and Director of Perioperative Genomics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. Dr. Sadhasivam has conducted >40 clinical research studies on improving perioperative outcomes. He and his team have received NIH, FAER, APSF, foundation, industry and institutional grants for their research projects. He has >150 publications and book chapters, and >10 U.S. and European patents on opioid safety. Dr. Sadhasivam's current research focus is on opioid pharmacogenetics, improving safety of opioids and personalizing surgical pain relief.
