Jeffrey A. Green, MD, MSHA, FASA

Dr. Green is the Boyan-Keenan Professor of Anesthesia Safety at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center. He serves as the ViceChairman in the Department of Anesthesiology and as the Assistant Medical Director for Performance Improvement for the VCU Medical Center. Dr. Green is board certified in Anesthesiology and Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE). He recently graduated with a Master of Science in Healthcare Administration from the VCU Department of Health Administration. Dr. Green is recognized for his expertise and research in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, as well as quality improvement and patient safety. He serves on many committees at the local, regional and national level, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Board of Directors and as a Full Examiner for the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is currently the president of the Virginia Society of Anesthesiologists and the Alternate Director and Virginia delegate to the American Society of Anesthesiologist’s House of Delegates. He serves as Chair of the MCVP Selfinsurance/Policy Committee as well as Chair of the VCUHS Medical Staff Quality Oversight Committee and Mortality Review Committee. He is a member of the board of the VCUHealth Captive Insurance Company, Aries Insurance Services, Inc. Dr. Green’s clinical practice at VCU Medical Center involves the care of many critical patients undergoing complex procedures in cardiothoracic surgery, such as coronary artery bypass grafting, valve replacement surgery, heart transplants, ventricular assist device implants and total mechanical heart replacements. He is formerly Director of Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology and the fellowship program director. He enjoys teaching cardiothoracic anesthesiology and perioperative TEE to fellows, residents and students. He is the recipient of the ASA/SEA Distinguished Educator in Anesthesiology Award. After obtaining his undergraduate education at the University of Michigan, Dr. Green completed medical school at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed a surgical internship at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA then completed anesthesiology residency and fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor, MI. Since 2001, Dr. Green has served on the faculty at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, VA.
